You worked hard for your degree and you want to find a job doing what you studied; what you are good at. You want to find a job where you can apply your talents and interests; one where you won’t be bored.

There is only one problem.

There are not any jobs out there in your field. People around you are advising you to find a job, any job, which will put food on the table.

You don’t want to do that. You don’t want to be tapped in an office the rest of your life, but you don’t want to starve either.

How can you find your perfect job? How can you resist the temptation to just accept any job you can find?

Finding your Perfect Job

Finding your perfect job requires some additional work from you. It will obviously not be there at your door steps for you to grab. But if you are organized and follow proven methods you will sure get it.

Below are some simple tips to finding your perfect job.

Don’t settle until you get that perfect job

First of all, don’t settle. Don’t give up on your dreams. There is a perfect job out there for you; you just have to resist the urge to compromise with the first job offered or even the job that offers you more money.

Better to be poor and content then rich and despondent, right? Don’t give in to cynics who think a bad economy means no hope. Your perfect job will pay enough. You just have to find it.

Dig into each opportunity

Don’t pin yourself into one field or profession. Take this opportunity to apply for jobs only marginally related to your field. You may find you will be surprised by what certain jobs actually entail. Some publicized jobs look perfect and yet turn out to be nightmares, and vice-versa. Don’t base your search solely on what the ad says.

Complete as many interviews as you can get; even if you are overqualified or under-qualified. If they agree to set up an interview, then they might have another job in mind or see something in yourself that you missed.

Another thing: don’t be afraid to share talents that may seem irrelevant. Mention your interests and what you are talented in on your resume. Those interests can lead to opportunities.

Just keep swimming

Don’t give up. After three months, after seven months, even after a year- keep looking. You might have to find a low-paying, temporary job to keep the lights on, but so be it. Better to suffer until you find the perfect job then become trapped in one you despise but rely on for money.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get a good-paying job while you are looking for your perfect job. Just remember to keep actively looking for your perfect job, even when you have steady work.

Your perfect job will probably not pay you as much, so don’t be lured away by the money. What it lacks in income, it will more than make up for in enjoyment and satisfaction.

Eyes on the prize, feet on the ground

Always keep in mind your goal, but apply for jobs beneath it. If you want to get to the top, frequently you’re going to have to work your way up. Don’t get disheartened. Sometimes you will apply for the lower job and get hired for the better job. Risk it and don’t forget that almost everyone is flexible.

The job may offer minimum wage but the boss might double it when he sees your degree and enthusiasm. Nothing is set in stone.

Know what you want

If you don’t know what your perfect job looks then how are you going to find it? Don’t just focus on what you got your degree in. You can find a job in something you are talented at, something you have zeal for, or something you just want to learn how to do. Don’t pass up prospects, even if they don’t seem to fit with what you want.

Any experience is good experience and can open the door to your perfect job in the future. You might find out your perfect job is something you never expected.

Conclusion – Finding your Perfect Job

Your perfect job is out there, but you will have to work for it. Keep looking, open your eyes, and be open to new experiences. You never know what is waiting out there, just for you.
